Exam Builder

The exam builder module is a great tool to add graded exams to your site. This can be used in a variety of different ways and the module even includes the ability to give successful passes exam certificates to document and prove that they passed an exam. This is a module that needs to be enabled so if you don't see it enabled on your site and you would like to have this functionality, please contact us and a member of our support team will assist you in getting it set up.

Creating an Exam

To begin with creating an exam, we first need to create a redirect page that the user will see whenever they complete an exam. To do this, we need to create a new Content Page. The easiest way to do this is to clone an existing content page. Select a page that has the same layout that you want and click the clone icon. After you've done this, edit the page and its content regions to display what you want the user to see after they complete an exam. Select the region you want the exam results to appear in from the Region Selection panel, then select User Exam Details from the Control Selection panel and then click Add Control to add this region to the page. After this is done you will need to submit and approve your content page in order to use it in the next step.

To create an exam, head over to the Exam Builder module and click the blue Add button in the top right hand corner of the page. Give your exam a Name and select a Page to Forward to from the drop down. Use the name of the page that you just created. Next enter the number of questions in the test, and the number of questions you want displayed on each page. The Success Paragraph is what will be displayed to the user when they successfully pass the exam. The Failure Paragraph is what will be displayed when the user fails the exam. The No Certificates Paragraph is what will be displayed to the user whenever they fail the exam and attempt to print a certificate. Click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page to save the exam.

Adding Questions to the Exam

Once you've created your exam, it's time to add questions now. Find the exam from the Exam Builder list and then click on the Exam Questions icon. From here click on the blue Add button in the top right hand corner of the screen. Type out the Question and then in the Possible Answers box type out one answer per line. In the Correct Answer field, enter the answer that is correct typed exactly as it appears in the Possible Answers box. Optionally, you can provide details on where to find the answer to this particular question using the editor. As an example you can create a study guide of PDFs and whenever a user gets the question wrong, you can use this field to display a hint to where they can find the answer in the study guide. After you're finished, click the blue Add button to save that question. Continue this process until you've built out all the questions in the exam.

Adding an Exam Certificate

Now that you've created an exam and added some questions, it's time to add the certificates that the user will get whenever they successfully complete the exam. To do this you need to find the exam that you just created and click on the Certificates icon that will take you to the Exam Certificates page where you can click on the blue Add button in the top right hand corner of the screen. Once you've done this you can give the certificate a name and enter the percentage (only numbers. Example: 80) that the user needs to score in order to get this particular certificate. In the Certificate Template text box, enter the HTML for the certificate that will be generated. You will need to contact us to get the code specific to your site in order to complete this step.. Once you've finished this step you can save that certificate and head back to the Exam Builder screen.
