The Navigation Module

The Navigation Module will help you add links to the menu of your site and to help organize those links. The navigation should already be set up with your theme, however you may need to add, remove, or change links from time to time. This tutorial will help you create, edit, and delete links to pages, as well as external links. If you need further help with the navigation on your site or you think that it needs to be restyled, please contact us and we can help get you started.

Creating a Link

Head over to the Navigation module in the sidebar and this will display a structural overview of the navigation bar on your site. To add a link, click the blue Add button in the top right hand corner of the screen. On the first drop down where it says Parent Navigation, leave this alone if the link will be part of the top level navigation. If the link will appear in a submenu under a top level link, select the page that you want it to appear under. Anything you enter in Display Text will appear on the page as the link text. If you are linking to an internal page, leave the External Link Text blank and where it says Internal Page Link, select the internal page that you would like to be linked. You can leave the rest of the fields on this page the way that they are and scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue Add button. From here you will still need to Submit and Approve your link in order for it to appear live on your site. To edit the link you just created you can find it listed in the Navigation module and click on the gear icon.

Sometimes, we don't want links to appear in the main navigation bar, but instead in a submenu under a link. In order to achieve this we are going to add a link to either the Level 1 Child or Level 2 Child. Head over to the Navigation module in the sidebar and this will display the navigation bar that is on your site. If it doesn't look right, make sure that Main Navigation at the top of the page is selected and click Change. Click the blue Add button in the top right hand corner of the screen. On the first drop down where it says Parent Navigation, select the link in which you want this submenu to appear under. Anything you enter in Display Text will appear on the page as the link text. You can fill out the rest of the form fields just as you would if you were adding or editing a link and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue Add button. From here you will still need to Submit and Approve your link in order for it to appear live on your site.

Reordering a Link

If you would like your link to appear elsewhere in the navigation, head over to the Navigation module in the sidebar. Find the link that you would like to edit, keeping in mind you may have to change the navigation in the drop down at the top of the page. Once you have found the link that you would like to reorder, click the Up or Down arrow buttons under the Sequence column until the link appears where you would like it to accordingly.
